NSA 2010 Rule Changes

 

The following rule changes were enacted at the 2010 NSA National Convention. 

Except where noted, all changes will take place for the 2010 playing season.

2010 NSA Fast Pitch Softball Rule Changes

1. Rule 1 Definition

Page 88 Section 14

Any non-swinging movement of the bat intended to tap the ball into play. The

mere holding of the bat in the strike zone is considered a strike. To take a

pitch the bat must be pulled backward away from the ball.

 

2. Rule 2 The Playing Field

Page 94 Section 2

In 2010 the Tournament Director will have the option to pitch from either 43

or 40 feet in the 14U age division at the State level.

The World Series in the 14U age division will pitch from 40 feet.

 

3. Rule 2 The Playing Field

In 2010 States have the option in the 16 year old division to pitch from either

43 or 40 feet.

The World Series in the 16 year old division will pitch from 43 feet.

 

4 Rule 3 Equipment

Page 100 Section 6- (f)

Delete the paragraph.

Rule shall read: The National Softball Association strongly recommends that

any type of jewelry not be worn in any NSA play.

 

5. Rule 4 Players/Substitution

Page 107 Section 8- ©

Teams may have no more than twenty- (20) players on their roster. After the

World Series FALL ROSTERS will be extended to twenty-five- (25) players

until the new sanction year begins.

 

6. Rule 5 The Game

Page 143 Section 1- (f)

8u Coach Pitch

The batter will be allowed five- (5) pitches or three- (3) strikes whichever

comes first. No base on balls will be awarded. If the batter hasn’t hit the ball

fairly after five- (5) pitches, the batter is out.

EXCEPTION: The at bat cannot be completed on a foul ball.
